$758,000.00 Settlement for a 24 Year Old Man Who Was Injured in a Slip and Fall on Ice at a Construction Site
On December 17, 2007, the plaintiff, who was then 20 years of age, was employed as an apprentice/sheet metal installer for an HVAC contractor at a construction project in New Canaan, Connecticut, and was walking from his company van towards the door of the premises, when he was caused to slip and fall on ice, causing him to sustain a large lumbar disc herniation at L4-5 with nerve root compression, among other injuries. As a result of the accident, the plaintiff was caused to undergo two surgeries on his back including a laminectomy, discectomy and fusion at L4-5 and a subsequent revision surgery on his recurrent herniated disc, which rendered him physically unable to return to work in the HVAC field. Suit was instituted against the general contractor in Bridgeport Superior Court and the case settled for a total sum of $758,000.00, which included a waiver of the substantial workers’ compensation lien, on the first day of jury selection.
