$194,890.66 Arbitration Award for a 31 Year Old Letter Carrier Who Sustained Injuries When He Was Attacked by Two Dogs While Attempting to Deliver the Mail
On August 30, 2013, a 31 year old letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service was attempting to deliver mail at a house in Cos Cob, Connecticut when he was suddenly chased by two dogs, causing him to run to the house next door where he attempted to fend off the dogs with a bush, which caused him to slip and fall and further caused him to sustain a left ACL rupture. Suit was instituted against the homeowners and their tenant, who were the owners and keepers of the two dogs. As a result of his injuries, the plaintiff had to undergo an ACL reconstruction on his left knee. Thereafter, the plaintiff was caused to undergo physical therapy and ultimately lost his job with the post office. The man has also made a claim for workers’ compensation benefits through the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs, which handles workers’ compensation claims for post office employees. The man subsequently obtained a job as a truck driver with another company. Suit was instituted against the two dog owners in Bridgeport Superior Court. The case proceeded to a binding arbitration and the arbitrator awarded the man the sum of $194,890.66 in his case.
