In January 2010, a forty-five year old woman, was caused to slip and fall on black ice located in a parking lot of a commercial shopping plaza in Wallingford, Connecticut. As a result of the accident, the plaintiff sustained various injuries including a herniated disc at L3-4, herniated disc at C5-6, left hand numbness and an injury to her left shoulder resulting in adhesive capsulitis in the shoulder. Suit was instituted against the owner of the shopping plaza, who was also responsible to maintain the parking lot during the winter months, in New Haven Superior Court. Following a mediation that was held before trial, the parties settled for the sum of $100,000.00.
